Ratings: blah week for syndies

TV News Check opines that syndicated shows fell into a "post-sweep depression." That may or may not explain it, but syndie game shows have seen better weeks. Still, there was one lonely gainer. The household ratings for the week of May 28-June 3 with the changes from the previous week...

Family Feud 6.2 - down a tick
Wheel of Fortune 5.6 - down a tick but manages a tie with the soulmate
Jeopardy 5.6 - down a couple ticks
Millionaire 1.6 - flat, it hardly ever budges lately
Funny You Should Ask 0.5 - up a tick as it bounces back and forth between 0.4 and 0.5

More of the same for GSN in the week of June 4-10. 411K/276K viewers prime time/total day. The network ranked 34th and 29th in the windows. GSN drew 108K/62K viewers in the 25-54 demo. Not much different from previous weeks but down a bit from a hot April. Cover Story returned with modest but not disastrous numbers. 324K viewers and a 0.06 18-49 rating. My guess is that the upcoming ep on The Price is Right will do better.

    1. 6.2. I did get the Sony numbers wrong. They were at 5.6.

    2. Will Wheel ever have a second run? I'm kind of amazed that in its 35 year run, it's only aired once per day.

    3. Was that week (5/28) or last week (6/4) the final week of new shows for the Wheel Season?

    4. According to Buy a Vowel - and they should know - the week of June 4-8 was the final week of new eps for Wheel.

  3. As far as a double-run in syndication, WOF hasn't done that as yet. J! has had a double run in syndication going back to 1985-86 in Philly, where WPVI ran year old episodes at 11AM(4PM for a brief time in Fall 1986) from 1985-88, and new episodes at 7PM as is still the case today. Last time Wheel aired twice per day was SUmmer 1991 when the daytime version bucket kicked for the last time.

    1. WPVI doesn't air a double run of J! Today. They air the current season at 7pm and the Saturday run (last season) at 7pm.

  4. It wasn't until the early 2000s when WPVI picked up the weekend run on WOF, which started in 1985.

  5. Hi Casey, I'm working on a Wikipedia article for Cover Story. I went through your old blog posts and found the ratings links for every episode except the second one (Meghan Markle, aired January 21). Did ShowBuzzDaily or another source ever post the ratings for that one?

    1. Your best bet would be to check Showbuzz directly. They have a search box that should help you find the ratings for Cover Story, if they have them.

    2. Just because I'm such a swell guy, I checked myself. Showbuzz doesn't seem to have the ratings for that Cover Story ep. Guess it didn't make their top 150 list.

    3. Yeah, I checked Showbuzz but didn't see it on the list. I didn't know if you had gotten them from another source so I figured I'd at least ask. Thanks anyway!

    4. That Cover Story about the Lottery was very similar to TLC's The Lottery Changed my Life, which airs from time to time on Discovery Family.
