Pyramid stuff

A commenter on this blog says that ABC seems to have renewed 100K Pyramid for a third season.

I haven't seen any independent confirmation of the news, but it wouldn't be a huge surprise. Although the show's numbers have slipped this year, they're still pretty good for summer broadcast fare, especially in this era of badly withered broadcast ratings. Not to mention that ABC can use any show which isn't an outright bomb.

Meanwhile, in the oldies section of the Pyramid community - game shows can have communities, right? - there's some buzz over the 25K Pyramid eps with Bill Cullen and Shelley Smith coming next week on GSN. I leaked this tiny bit of news a while back, but GSN's online schedule has now confirmed it. I wish I could tell you how I knew about the schedule in advance, but it's a deep dark secret known only to three highly placed CIA operatives.

Apparently, this week of eps hasn't been seen for a long time, according to oldies fans. On Game Show Forum a poster proudly announces: "I haven't been watching GSN in I don't know how long now." That's a badge of honor on the oldies boards. But even this poster might tune in for the long lost Pyramid episodes.

UPDATE: In other GSN schedule news, the network will run a tribute to Patti Deutsch with their Match Game eps on August 2.

  1. The ratings slipped a bit due to ABC making way for Steve Harvey's new show. The 9 p.m. timeslot was perfect.

    1. It would have been better at 8pm with Harvey FF at a later hour, due to content.

    2. I was thinking of having Pyramid back at 9pm but I do like your idea better and if they bring back Funderdome (which I feared would lead to Pyramid's death) they could still be back to back and the two game shows back to back. The problem then would be Pyramid would be vs. Big Brother.

  2. And can you really blame us for being concerned? GSN had NEVER touched the 1984 part of "The $25,000 Pyramid" before.

  3. The Shelley Smith/Bill Cullen week of $25K Pyramid from 10/10-10/14/1983 never aired in USA reruns, either, so they haven't been seen in 34 years since CBS ran them. Thanksgiving week 1983 and New Year's week 1984 of $25K Pyramid(1/3-1/6/84, as football college bowl games aired on MOnday 1/2 in 1984 as NY Day was on a Sunday), also haven't been seen since their original broadcasts as USA skipped those weeks too.

  4. I hope you're right about the Shelley/Bill episodes. GSN pulled away from their schedule again today (Patty Duke/John Maschetta instead of Rita Moreno/Michael Spound). Love watching Shelley Smith--truly the best of all celebrity Pyramid players--and a long-time fan of Bill Cullen. GSN, we'll be watching!

    1. GSN didn't "pull away" from anything on 25K Pyramid. They ran exactly the eps they listed on their online schedule. And the schedule still says that the Bill Cullen/Shelley Smith eps are running next week...
