Ratings: syndies blah out

It was mostly a week of small dips for syndie game shows, though there was one (sadly irrelevant) gainer. TV News Check has the bland household ratings for the week of April 3-9...

Family Feud 6.4 - flat
Wheel of Fortune 6.1 - down a couple ticks
Jeopardy 5.9 - also down a couple ticks, ever notice how the soulmates tend to move in tandem?
Millionaire 1.6 - down a tick
Celebrity Name Game 1.3 - up a tick in the only plus for the week, as if it matters any more

Douglas Pucci posts prime time GSN ratings now and then. Total viewers and 18-49 ratings for last Friday April 14...

Family Feud (Harvey) 8:00 PM 389 0.05
Family Feud (Harvey) 8:30 PM 481 0.06
Family Feud (Harvey) 9:00 PM 436 0.07
Family Feud (Harvey) 9:30 PM 428 0.07
Family Feud (Harvey) 10:00 PM 337 0.06
Family Feud (Harvey) 10:30 PM 365 0.06

Even after all these years, Steve averaged 406K viewers and a decent (for GSN) 0.06 18-49 rating. Now all the whiners on the game show Interwebs know why Harvey Feud gets so many runs on the network.

Overall, GSN got 396K/265K viewers prime time/total day for April 10-16. The network ranked 38th and 36th in the windows. Usual numbers for recent weeks.

One more bit of GSN news. Cash Cab did fine in prime time on Saturday April 15. About as well as Harvey Feud in the same 10:00 PM time slot the night before. Ben got 340K viewers and a 0.07 18-49 rating. The cab rolls on.

  1. Speaking of GSN, I learned on Game Show Paradise that they are acquiring "Toddlers and Tiaras". This is my response to our little game show network, who still thinks Reality TV is welcome.

    1. I just went to GSP to check this rumor about Toddlers and Tiaras. I found the thread, but an administrator has locked it as "bulls--t." (The administrator spelled out the word, but I've got stricter rules around here.)

I don't know what exactly this means. Is the rumor b.s. or just the comments on the rumor?

I dunno, I haven't been able to find anything else about this supposed acquisition on the Interwebs. I'm not saying it's impossible, but GSN has been wall-to-wall traditional game shows for quite a while now. And the network's upfront emphasized a return to traditional gamers. Certainly its recent acquisitions - Cash Cab and Hollywood Game Night - couldn't be more traditional.

I've got a few contacts at GSN. Maybe I'll check on this Toddlers and Tiaras stuff.

Meanwhile, a couple posters in the now-locked thread were slamming me over other subjects. I tried to reply but got locked out when the thread was shut down. Ah, who cares?

  2. I just made an account on that forum to post about this. The show's name is being used in ads for the Emogenius show, they showed the baby and crown emojis and asked "What show is this?". That's most likely where the rumors came from.

    1. Oh, okay. The rumor seemed like complete b.s. to me. Thanks for the clarification.

Not that I've got great hopes for Emogenius, but at least it's a traditional game show. (Oh, I shouldn't prejudge).

  3. I posted a blog entry about this hilarious goof by Game Show Paradise. Those guys - and the game show Interwebs in general - will believe any negative nonsense about GSN.

This reminds me of the old days on the GSN comments board. A rumor got around that the network was planning a reality show with prizes buried under hundreds of tons of rock. (This would crush the prizes pretty thoroughly, right?)

I called b.s. on the rumor right away, and of course it turned out to be a false story put out by a known hoaxer on the Internet. But a lot of posters took the hoax seriously because they hated GSN so much.

Same thing happened with Game Show Paradise and this ridiculous Toddlers and Tiaras story. As long as GSN runs game shows with less than decades of dust on them, the network is gonna get slammed on the Interwebs.

    1. They acutally thought Toddlers and Tiaras was coming to GSN? Oh my god that's hilarious. After GSN's recently failed attempts of reality shows, I doubt that will ever show up. And it isn't even close to being a game show.

You figure GSP would be at least happy that a classic, Match Game has afternoon slots at 1 and 1:30 pm weekdays. They're even cutting back Harvey in favor of other shows. But nope, still whining about him. Sorry to say this, but I highly doubt Dawson or Combs Feud is ever returning.

    2. One of the best things that Buzzr has done is bring back Combs Feud. Gotta admit, I like him a lot better than the mumbling, bored Dawson in his later years on Feud.

    3. When did Dawson seem bored with the show? It seemes like by 1984, he didn't really care anymore.
