Ratings: an okay week for syndies

Syndie game shows have seen worse weeks than October 19-25. Three of the shows gained and none of them lost. The numbers weren't tremendous but they were far from awful. TV News Check posts the household ratings...

Wheel of Fortune 6.6 - up four ticks to finish second among all syndies
Family Feud 6.4 - up three ticks to slip ahead of Alex
Jeopardy 6.2 - flat
Millionaire 1.2 - flat
Celebrity Name Game 1.2 - up a tick to get out of solitary confinement in the basement

This is old news, but I saw a Variety story about the woes of cable nets during the summer (June-August). A conspicuous exception was GSN. The showbiz rag noted that our little game show network averaged a record 137K 18-49 viewers in prime time for the three months. That was up 73% from summer, 2014. Which means GSN got a tiny 79K 18-49 viewers back then. The network's audience is getting a bit younger, after all. GSN also averaged a record 471K total viewers in prime time for summer, 2015.

TV Newser says that GSN didn't fare so well in the most recent October 26-November 1 week. 347K/309K/380K viewers prime time/total day/extended prime time. The network ranked 42nd, 31st and 41st in the windows.

  1. If Celebrity Name Game makes Millionaire slip into last place, then Craig has a pretty good chance at getting a third season. I think Millionaire is done after this season. Because the format is dying out. Heck, overabused reruns of Two And A Half Men are doing better than that show is. Also, non related but Harvey's talker hit a six week high at a 1.8. Good week for Steve Harvey and company.

  2. Just an "okay" week for syndies? I would call it pretty good since four of the five rose and none of the five dropped from the prior week.

I have a funny feeling, but looking at numbers so far this Fall, I think Family Feud's ultimate season to season rise may start coming to an end. We'll see as we go through the coming months, but the rise this year from last year seems to be much slower and not as large as from 2014 to 2013 and 2013 to 2012.

CNG should be good for renewal at this point. It's flat with last year in worse timeslots.

As for the GSN article, but I must have missed this too. Notice in the article, Steampunk'd gets credit but Chain Reaction does not. Good to see the 18-49's rising, but most of that is thanks to Skin Wars and primetime being filled with Family Feud.

    1. Actually, three of the five rose, and they didn't exactly leap through the roof. It was an okay week, like I said.
