Ratings: happy days are here again for syndies

For whatever reason - fall weather, fewer preemptions, good astrology - the Nielsen Company smiled on syndie game shows for the week of September 28-October 4. Every show jumped, sometimes by a lot. Even poor old Chris and Craig had reason to smile. TV News Check posts the household ratings...

Wheel of Fortune 6.6 - up a whopping eight ticks
Family Feud 6.4 - up an almost as impressive seven ticks
Jeopardy 6.0 - up five ticks as Matt Jackson begins his run
Millionaire 1.2 - still not great but up a tick
Celebrity Name Game 1.2 - up a tick and again not in last place all by itself

It looks like TV by the Numbers has canned its weekly viewer totals for syndie shows. Too bad. My guess is that Pat and Vanna led all syndies in viewers, but I can't prove it. Anyway, it's nice to see some good news for the genre. The numbers should continue to improve as we head into the peak viewing months.

GSN kept racking up good ratings and rankings for the week of October 5-11. 393K/302K/430K viewers prime time/total day/extended prime time. The network ranked 38th, 29th and 33rd in the windows. Those ranks, especially for total day, were just fine by GSN's historical standards.

  1. Jeopardy! ratings are going to keep rising if the Matt Jackson streak continues.

The week of September 28th means what? Matt Jackson just started his run that week and was on for a couple days, so he did not affect ratings that week.

Ratings for October 5-9 will have little bump, since he only reached double digits that week.

Ratings for this current week will have a boost.

But the ratings above (from September 28th week) were just because of cooler weather, earlier sunset, viewers realizing it is a new season, etc.

    1. Matt Jackson won his first game on September 25. He was on for the entire week of September 28-October 2, and my guess is that he affected the ratings a lot. Especially toward the end of the week as the media buzz began to spread...

    2. By the way, for my "Matt Jackson Watch" in the sidebar, I've already prepared images for wins 14 through 17. We'll see if Matt makes them necessary.

    3. I stand corrected. I got ahead of myself in the dates, but disagree that Jackson's run contributed to all the above ratings growth.

  2. I think Matt's run had plenty to do with the ratings. But it doesn't matter much going forward, because his run is over.

  3. I will declare his game from yesterday a technical win because they should have redone the Final Jeopardy! round after the triple stumper, so his run continues.

  4. THe TofC which Matt is now eligible for is less than a month away, airing 11/9 to 11/20. Matt will be one of the front runners to win that some would say.

    1. On yesterday's show - the first without Matt in a while - Alex actually mentioned the upcoming T of C and how Matt would no doubt be one of the favorites.
