The week before Christmas didn't bring too many nice presents to syndicated game shows. They mostly edged down but the damage was not severe. And one show managed a tiny move up. TVNewsCheck brings the blah news...
Wheel of Fortune 7.3 - down a tick
Jeopardy 6.4 - down a couple ticks in sympathy with the soulmate
Family Feud 4.7 - up a tick, Steve has even more to smile about
Millionaire 2.3 - flat
Baggage 1.1 - down a tick for poor last-place Jerry
The viewership averages for the top three shows from TV by the Numbers: Wheel of Fortune 11.4 million (weekend repeat 5.3 million), Jeopardy 9.8 million, Family Feud 7.1 million. Gee, it would be nice to see Meredith in their top 25 syndie list one of these weeks.
Douglas Pucci tells us that GSN enjoyed its best numbers in a while for Christmas week, December 24-30: 356K/281K viewers prime time/total day. Santa was kind to the network. Steve Harvey's Family Feud dominated the ratings completely, of course.

Very interesting. I compared the ratings for What's My Line and I've Got a Secret for the two weeks they were on. Except for Christmas night, they beat the program that was broadcast at 2AM the week of December 10, usually by healthy margins.
ReplyDeleteAnyone honestly think that GSN will look at this and give the public what they support? Of course not. More Dog Eat Dog and Baggage.
BTW, do these ratings include DVR recordings? From the sites I visit, I know that a large number of people were recording these shows. I doubt if anyone was recording the previous 2AM show since they show about 10 episodes of it every day.
I think these are same-day numbers. GSN gets little DVR recording due to the very old-skewing demos.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I like both Baggage and Dog Eat Dog. We will be getting more Baggage because it's replacing the hapless Improv-a-Ganza on Friday nights. GSN's public seems to like Jerry's show just fine. It was the only show to crack the top 20 in the latest week except for Harvey Feud.
Dog Eat Dog had a couple of okay numbers on Saturday afternoon, around 250K or so. So it's not an abject failure with GSN's audience, either. For now the network is using the canine epic to fill a few hours on the weekends. No big deal.
I must be the only dvr GSN junkie lmao
ReplyDeleteThing is with Dog Eat Dog, the series only had 26 episodes and gets cycled through in about five or six weeks. Ratings stil have continued to rise for Dog Eat Dog, a couple slots some weeks well above the 300K mark.
ReplyDeleteGood for Baggage still doing well in reruns. It wasn't long ago when it only had the midnight slot. Now, Jerry is popping up everywhere, and now primetime (again)
